Community Empowerment Association, Inc., (CEA) and Pittsburgh’s Youth are Committed to President Obama’s Call for Action
Pittsburgh, PA, February 13, 2009-CEA will host the first annual community service concert to motivate youth citywide to recognize, commit and perform their social and civic duties.
Local youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years of ages from all across the city will attend a Hip Hop concert to kick off the Pittsburgh Presidential Pledge campaign. The Pittsburgh Presidential Pledge calls for our youth to be mindful of social and civic responsibility to themselves, their peers, neighbors, senior citizens and those that face a larger disadvantage, such as our disabled residents and those whom are not from this region. The membership will require youth to take an active role in community service, civic involvement and their personal development. As a Pittsburgh Presidential Pledge member youth are eligible for scholarships to attend vocational training or college, local concerts, recreational and entertainment passes, PA college tour and positive, non-violent youth events held in their honor. The goal of this initiative is to keep our youth safe and off the streets.  The pledge reads:The Pittsburgh Presidential Pledge
What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world; duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.
We must embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than ourselves.
We must embrace those values upon which our success depends — hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity and loyalty.
We commit to non-violence, respect, patience and understanding to all gender, races, cultures, religions and political parties that may be different from our own. ~Barack Obama, President of the United States
